Board Elections 2022

As a nonprofit, we rely on a team of passionate individuals to lead our organization. Our leaders come from academic and business backgrounds with a wide range of expertise.

Nominations for the 2022 Board Elections closed on September 30, 2022. The elections took place Monday, October 24 – Friday, October 28, 2022.

Congratulations to our newly elected and re-elected B Academics board members, for the 01/2023 – 12/2024 term.

We are also excited to welcome to the B Academics board, two MBA students from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business as part of the Fuqua on Board Program, for the 11/22 – 11/23 term!

Note you must have a current paid B Academics membership to be considered for a board nomination and to vote in the election.

General responsibilities of all board members

  • Attend monthly 90 minute Board meetings (12 per year) virtually
  • Monitor B Academics branded email account for your position and represent the Board with external audiences
  • Advocate for B Academics with passion and commitment in all settings. 
  • Provide support, as needed, to B Academics’ working areas.
    • This may include attending events, assisting in facilitation of events, and distributing communications to your networks.
    • Report any new business from your Committee (if applicable) to the full Board 
  • Provide any annual budget requests to the Treasurer for your Committee or position.
  • If you Chair a committee with your position, you are responsible for:
    • Proposing the rules of procedure for the committee.
    • Proposing to the Board of Directors the addition and, if necessary, the removal of members of the committee.
    • Conducting the committee meetings and decision-making process for the committee.
  • All Board members are covered under Director and Officer Insurance.

2022 Board positions (nominations closed for 2022)

President

Only board members who have served at least a two year term can be nominated to serve as President.

  • Serve on the Executive Committee of the Board (including 12 additional monthly meetings) to help make high level executive decisions for full Board consideration
  • Schedule, set the agenda and facilitate monthly board meetings to advance the strategic priorities of B Academics
  • Advance the reputation of and represent B Academics through external engagement
  • Lead the strategic visioning and execution for the organization
  • Stand in for vacation positions on the Board when necessary
  • Serve as liaison with B Lab

Treasure

  • Serve on the Executive Committee of the Board (including 12 additional monthly meetings) to help make high level executive decisions for full Board consideration.
  • Work with the Board Secretary as needed at the interface of legal/financial matters.
  • With the authorization of the Board, responsible for finding and maintaining general liability and D&O insurance.
  • Responsible for managing our financial accounts and all aspects of our accounting: Quickbooks, PayPal, Stripe, Beneficial State Bank, MembershipWorks. This includes setting up and updating data integration/synchronization and importing/categorizing transactions between these systems as needed.
  • Responsible for issuing invoices to institutional sponsors, filling out Form W9 as needed to facilitate payments, following up as needed on receivables.
  • Responsible for preparing annual budget, periodic budget updates and quarterly/annual financial statements for the Board.
  • Responsible for interfacing with the accountant and handling annual IRS filing.
  • Investment management experience.

Chair, Membership Committee

  • Create and implement a yearly individual and institutional membership plan (in conjunction with Treasurer)
  • Promote membership through the year (in conjunction with Communication Committee) 
  • Develop and monitor membership KPIs 
  • Provide regular membership reports to the board and as needed
  • Handle membership (prospects & currents) related queries 
  • Propose, plan and implement enhancements to the membership value proposition for each segment (institutional, faculty & students) 
  • Supervise the membership renewal process 
  • Develop and maintain a Membership Manual
  • Facilitate the transition to the new Chair – training 

Chair, Teaching and Curriculum Innovation Committee

  • Develop, implement, and highlight relevant and engaging curricula and best practices related to teaching about B Corps, benefit corporations, and B Impact teams / experiential learning. 
  • Plan & hold annual Teaching event/PDW (in partnership with the Events Committee)
  • Create & update resource portal for teaching about B Corps on the B Academics website (in partnership with the Information Sharing Committee)
  • Grow and engage academic network focused on teaching (in partnership with the Membership Committee)
  • Collaborate with & support other B Academics Committees

Co-Chair/Chair, Communication Committee

We are looking for either two Co-chairs or one Chair of Communications.

  • Support the executive committee on communications management. 
  • Work with others committees on communications strategies, sharing information through our communications channels and graphic design.
  • Coordinate with the president and communication team to contribute to the development of the communication strategy. Host and attend additional monthly Communications Committee meetings.
  • Manage social media (Linkedin, Twitter and YouTube): define the strategy, design (when is needed) and compose the content, post, and track the impacts. 
  • Support website management.
  • Compose the content, design and manage the monthly B Academics Newsletter.

Chair, Global Outreach and Engagement Committee

  • Facilitates the engagement of people interested in B Academics 
  • Identifies and develops opportunities for engagement in B Academics
  • Co-designs and support the organization of B Academics’ local networks
  • Support the coordination and collaboration among/ with B Academics’ local networks
