General Responsibilities of All Board Members
- Attend monthly 90 minute Board meetings (12 per year) virtually
- Monitor B Academics branded email account for your position and represent the Board with external audiences
- Advocate for B Academics with passion and commitment in all settings.
- Provide support, as needed, to B Academics’ working areas.
- This may include attending events, assisting in facilitation of events, and distributing communications to your networks.
- Report any new business from your Committee (if applicable) to the full Board
- Provide any annual budget requests to the Treasurer for your Committee or position.
- If you Chair a committee with your position, you are responsible for:
- Proposing the rules of procedure for the committee.
- Proposing to the Board of Directors the addition and, if necessary, the removal of members of the committee.
- Conducting the committee meetings and decision-making process for the committee.
- All Board members are covered under Director and Officer Insurance.
2023 Board Positions (nominations closed for 2023)
Vice President
- Serve on the Executive Committee of the Board (including 12 additional monthly meetings) to help make high level executive decisions for full Board consideration.
- Advance the reputation of and represent B Academics through external engagement and fundraising.
- Serve as co-liaison with B Lab.
- Serve as vice-chair of the research committee.
- Stand in for vacant positions on the Board when necessary (i.e. Treasurer).
- Stand in for president as/when needed.
- Play a key role in strategic visioning and execution.
Board Secretary
- Serve on the Executive Committee of the Board (including 12 additional monthly meetings) to help make high level executive decisions for full Board consideration.
- Manage and keep the records/documents of the organization, including taking meeting minutes, maintaining corporate records (state filings), financial contracts, and other similar legal documents.
- Manage the operational strategic goals for the organization, including setting up procedural policies related to information security, financial procedures and bylaws.
- Organize and lead the election process for Board membership.
Chair & Vice Chair, Event Committee
Chair
- Lead efforts to successfully host four events for B Academics a year, in coordination with the Chairs of the Teaching and Research Committees.
- Manage the overall logistics of each event, including: registration, facility/technical space reservation and setup, catering, partnerships, and on-site facilitation during the event.
- Work collaboratively with the Chair of the Membership Committee to effectively communicate event information to members.

Chair & Vice Chair, Research Committee
Chair
- Identify directions, opportunities, and priorities to further develop the B Corp research community and advance the mission of B Academics.
- Organize the Annual B Academics Research Roundtable and other research-related events and activities.
- Maintain a database of B Corp publications, coordinate the effort to crowd-source B Corp data for the research community, and write materials such as research summaries and interviews with researchers to facilitate information sharing, learning, and community building.
- Answer research related-inquiries and questions on a daily basis from members and non-members of B Academics.

Chair & Vice Chair, B Local Engagement Committee
Chair
- Facilitate connections between B Academics and B Local groups across the globe.
- Share and develop B Academics resources with practitioners. These include:
- Research questions and findings about B Corps.
- Teaching resources for B Corps.
- Certification assistance through student engagement.
- A wide network of academics with various interests in B Corps.
- Work with B Locals to advance their priorities in ways that the academic community can support and inform.
- Plan and hold engagement events with B Academics’ local networks in coordination with events committee and other committees (research, teaching and curriculum innovation)

Chair & Vice Chair, Student Engagement Committee
Chair
- Shapes role of student engagement in B Academics and creates value proposition for students.
- Develops student mentorship program.
- Assist Events Committee and B Local Engagement Committee in coordinating student focused events .
